La playa

Hola

Last night we walked around a bit trying to find a hostel with activities we could join, but we didn't see any posters listing things in the lobby so we left. The city looked pretty creepy and deserted for 10:30 pm... In Madrid every plaza was full of tables of people having tapas and drinks and chatting with their friends, Valencia was dark and empty. We saw a crowd of people and got momentarily excited only to realize a movie just finished and they were all leaving the theater. There was supposed to be a pub crawl meeting in front of the Mercat central, supposedly an important area, but we got there and itwas pitch black and empty...we could not have walked any faster as we left. Passed a lady we were 97% sure was a prostitute. Huzzah.
We got back to the apartment and cracked open some 95 cent wine and 75 cent sangria and called it a night. Mentioned the lack of people out to our host guy and he said that Valencia is nice and quiet. Creepy and deserted i guess equals nice and quiet to the locals...
He set out a list of July activities in Valencia and tonight there are supposed to be fireworks at the beach. Valencia is supposed to be famous for their firework shows, so we are going to head back to the beach later on for some food and fireworks.
Tomorrow there us supposed to be a jazz concert somewhere which could be cool too.

Amy and I went to the beach today. Let me start by saying, there are some things you cannot un-see...
We took a metro and a tram/ trolley/ streetcar mobile to get there. The metro is more expensive than madrid's so that was a bummer.
The beach was really nice, huge sandy sections and warmish clean water. If you look out into the water or at some of the palm trees it was very similar to south Carolina. That us where the similarities end.
Anything goes as far a swim suits are concerned. Tops are not necessary, bottoms are really pretty small.
Man suits... Let's just say there was a lot of exposed hairy man thigh.
Ladies of valencia: some of you really should consider wearing a top. You are past your topless prime.
Amy was lucky she didn't have her glasses on and couldn't see people clearly.

Other than that the beach was excellent, we plan to return on Monday. We brought some bread and cheese and some chips today. Great beach snacks.

I just went to hang my suit on the clotheslines to dry and I dropped the bottoms... That is the part that actually counts here!
Thankfully they got stuck on a mystery pole thing not too far down and Amy could reach them using two long handled spoons. I was afraid I would have to learn how to ask the downstairs neighbors if my bottoms had fallen on their porch. Awkward situation avoided.

Siesta then fireworks.

Adios!
